Antje Solveigh
”Painting is a path of listening where words become colours and colours become presence.”
Born in Namibia in 1980, I grew up with the landscapes of southern Africa, the winds of the Atlantic, and the very special light of that land. Later on, my outlook on life and my relationship with living things was enriched by European seasons.
Today I live in Switzerland, on my husband’s family’s farm with organically grown vineyards and field crops in the La Côte region of the Canton of Vaud. It is here that, following the rhythms of nature, I paint, and here that my workshop has become a place for creativity, for meeting others, and for contemplation.
My work is born of an inner path. Each painting begins long before the canvas, through observation, drawing, writing, meditation, and seeking, all of which enable me to enter into relationship with the theme I want to explore. When the time to actually paint arrives, I let colour become a living language, a dialogue between intention, matter, and what is seeking to be revealed.
Nature continues to be my greatest teacher. Light, the four elements, the rhythms of life, and the nature of the soul are what nourish each of my creations.
Through my paintings, I don’t seek to represent the world, but rather to open up a space of presence, of silence, and of wonder; a space where the visible meets the invisible, where colours become a language of the soul, and where each viewer may find an echo to their own inner light.
Each painting is for me a breath of gratitude offered to the meeting between the visible and the invisible.
Artistic approach
The path of creation is an encounter guided by other encounters.
Encounters between words and colours, between the visible and the invisible, between human beings and nature. Each painting is a search; it is a path on which observation, contemplation, and colour enable the emergence of a presence that invites us to slow down and listen to Life.
Each creation is born first of a time of observation, then of a pencil, charcoal, or watercolour sketch, followed by moments of meditation, of silence, and of walks in the great outdoors. Gradually the painting takes form in a dialogue between inner experience and what wants to appear on the canvas.
I paint in successive layers, starting with water-soluble oils that bring movement, transparency, and freedom to the colour. The last layers are done with traditional oil paint and, when the painting calls for it, a few touches of white gold leaf are added as a subtle light supporting the flow of the work.

Four letters a year serve as a doorway through which are shared fragments of inspiration, moments of creating, and the stories behind the paintings. It would be a joy for me to share this path with you.

There is nothing more inspiring than the connection, the real bond that is there for us with the beauty of nature, of the universe, and of every living being. Love, devotion, and friendship live in our hearts and souls and it’s in the soul and the heart that art awakens.
Ever since childhood, I have loved nature and learned to feel gratitude towards the invisible forces of the universe with thankfulness for their vibrations and their reflections on earth and in our souls.
The essence of the devotion rising from the heart is love for the world and for all that surrounds us. This devotion towards nature and towards others is the essence of my art.
