Lobsang Melendez Ahuanari
BIOGRAPHY
Lobsang Melendez Ahuanari is a young visionary artist born in Pucalipa, in the Peruvian Amazon. At the age of twelve, through the drawing and painting lessons of a university professor, he discovered his love of art.
In 2011, at only sixteen years of age, he began study at the “Eduardo Meza Saravia” School of Art in his home town. While in the sixth level of his academic training, his interest for medicinal plants led him to go into that subject more deeply in order to prepare his thesis in plastic arts.
That is how Lobsang became a visionary artist.
And so the young graduate, greatly enriched by what he’d learned at art school and through his research, decided that his artwork would be inspired by the medicinal culture of Amazonia.
As his work not only bears the seal of his neo-Amazonian culture, but is also influenced by his many encounters and travels, as well as by his awareness of life in general, it is constantly evolving.
Artistic approach
My desire is to capture the inspiration of the moment in my works by letting spontaneity flow through each stroke of colour, each shape, each person,… To share the pure essence of my experiences with all those who resonate with it.
What motivates me to paint? My own human nature. What I humbly try to convey in my paintings is that marvellous inner seeking which encourages me day by day to constantly explore my nature, in the sense that I recognize myself and reconnect with the source.
Life itself is the source of my inspiration. I consider each day as a new birth and each night as a rehearsal for death. The wonderful mystery that continually surrounds us invites me to contemplation and I try to capture a synthesis of essential things and express it in my works.
My learning has come from my ancestors, my grandparents, my father, from a few teachers along the way, and through the study of medicinal plants in the Peruvian Amazon. Such was the beginning as well as the main key that opened for me the way to exploration of the invisible world.
