Rimma Bijoux

BIOGRAPHY

My name is Rimma Delacrétaz. I’m an artist and the founder of Rimma Bijoux, Swiss Botanical Art Jewelry, where real leaves, flowers, and seeds take on new life in the form of symbolic jewellery, thanks to the art of  electroplating.

My path towards this art form has not been a simple straight line, but rather has been built up over the years as each new passion came naturally to join the others in one and the same quest for meaning and creation.

I was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, in a deeply artistic family. My mother is a painter; my father played the accordeon, and my grandmother sang all the time. I feel as though music was part of me even before I was born. I learned to sing before I learned to talk, and started learning to play the piano at the age of seven. Later I studied music in a music school, then in a music college, and finally obtained a Conservatory degree in musicology. I then taught music and worked for several years in a music college in Russia.

In 2014 I set out on a trip through Asia. This is when Tai Chi Qi Gong came into my life and showed me a new and different way to experience time, attentiveness, and presence in everything I did. Over the years I studied under many different masters and in several schools in various countries in order to go deeper into this path.

In 2016, a new chapter in my life began when love brought me to Switzerland. I have been teaching Tai Chi Qi Gong since 2019. I give courses in Yvorne, in the Canton of Vaud, and also give private piano lessons. For two years I led the Montreux Gospel Singers choir.

In 2019, in the course of my travels, I discovered plant electroplating. I was deeply fascinated by the fact that a fragile leaf could maintain its shape and acquire a new life from metal. This thought stayed with me for several years and yet, despite a strong inner calling, I didn’t feel ready to follow this new path, for I still identified myself above all as a musician and a Tai Chi Qi Gong teacher.

It wasn’t until the end of 2024, and thanks to my husband’s support, that I finally allowed myself to follow my intuition. In February 2025 I began training in electroplating and I continue even now to study and work to improve my skills. I have also taken training in jewellery in Vevey. The creation of my first piece of jewellery marked the beginning of a new artistic path which, in unexpected ways, combines everything that had nourished my life up until then.

When I discover a leaf, the main thing I feel is gratitude. Nature has already created a perfect work and it’s not my role to transform it, but to preserve its story. Thanks to metal, natural stones, and a long, patient, meticulous process, nature’s little marvel prolongs its existence in a new form.

Since the summer of 2025 I’ve been taking part in various art fairs, festivals, and exhibitions in the cantons of Vaud, Valais, and Geneva. I perceive each of these encounters with people as an extension of the creative process, for I experience enormous joy at seeing my jewellery resonate in the hearts of men and women, thereby becomng more than just pieces of adornment. They become personal symbols and bearers of meaning and history.

Nowadays my creations invite people to slow down and to reconnect with nature and with their own inner strength. I am never more touched than when I see someone put on a piece of jewellery and immediately feel that it is made for them. In that instant, the piece ceases to be a simple object and becomes a symbol, a talisman, and part of that person’s personal history. In the face of such beauty, my desire is not to transform anything, but to preserve it.

Artistic approach

At the heart of my artistic approach is a deep reverence for the natural. I am convinced that Mother Nature has already created absolutely perfect works. Each leaf, each flower, and each seed holds its own unique shape, rhythm, and history. Some trees have been growing for dozens, even hundreds, of years. The stones I use in the things I make have taken shape over millions of years. Before such great beauty, I feel only the desire to preserve it, not change it in the slightest.

Actually my work starts well before the workshop. It starts when I’m out walking and the natural surroundings seem to suggest the shape of a future piece of jewellery. I don’t go looking for the perfect leaf; I let it come to me.

Then begins a long transformative process. Before it becomes a piece of jewellery, a natural element passes through my hands between forty and seventy times. Preparation, application of the conductive layer, electroplating, silver plating or gold plating, patinas, stone setting, polishing…  each of these steps requires time, patience, attention, and total presence.

There is no way to hasten the process and it is precisely this slowness that brings on a certain state of mind where my work becomes a form of meditation in which time disappears. I feel a stong connection with life forces, with nature, with Earth and Sky, and with the great Source of which we are all a part. Love, gratitude, and a deep curiosity about the world are the guiding forces behind everything I do.

I like to think of my jewellery as the meeting point between several timeframes. The minerals were formed over millions of years. The trees took several decades to grow. Electroplating requires several weeks’ work. All these dimensions of time come together in a piece of jewellery which in turn joins with one person’s life or timeline.

The jewellery is not made just for its beauty. I want each piece to remind the person wearing it that everything we need is already present within us. Inner strength, beauty, dignity, and the ability to be fully oneself are naturally there, just as beauty is naturally present in each leaf. The greatest reward for my work is when a woman tries on a piece of jewellery and a smile comes on her face that seems to say she has found a long forgotten part of herself. When that happens, the piece ceases to be a simple object and becomes a symbol, a talisman, a subtle reminder of the woman’s true nature.

“Each piece of jewellery begins with gratitude towards nature and ends in an encounter with oneself.”
